The Trusted Custodial Utility (TCU) provides a
centralized high performance secure document archive for Electronic Originals. User interaction with the TCU is conditioned on user identity, authentication and access privileges.
The TCU performs a trusted authority function, the "Authentication Service." The Authentication Service constitutes "third party" verification that the
electronic documents it accepts and retains are those executed and transmitted by the document's originator.
The Authentication Service provides a protected, reliable date and time
source that establishes when control of a document passes to the TCU.
The TCU controls and tracks (trail-of-evidence) original electronic documents
and revisions. The TCU supports transfers of ownership. The TCU may be operated by an outsourcer or by an individual company for internal documentation.
