June 25, 1999 -- Red Herring.com The "Other" Michael Jordan Goes Dot-Com
Michael Jordan, the businessman who ran Westinghouse Electric and CBS
(NYSE: CBS), has joined eOriginal as chairman of the board. Mr. Jordan, who retired as chairman and CEO of CBS late last year, is a significant investor in
eOriginal, an e-commerce play with a patented process that verifies electronic contracts and other trade documents with a mix of encryption and digital-signature technology. According to eOriginal, Mr. Jordan will play a significant role at the company, introducing it to new business partners while
administering strategic advice. Mr. Jordan has plenty of street cred in the Internet arena, as he also serves on the boards of Dell Computer (Nasdaq: DELL) and MarketWatch.com (Nasdaq: MKTW).
In keeping with the sports theme of this week's column, it's worthwhile to note that eOriginal is headquartered in the warehouse building that is part of Baltimore's Camden Yards baseball
stadium. And as far as we know, the "other" Michael Jordan is still retired, although the recent signing of Phil Jackson as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers
might be enough to lure His Airness back to the boards.Go to: Next article, Wall Street Journal
