Document Authentication Systems announces the introduction of the "Electronic
Original" BALTIMORE, Maryland, July 9, 1998 – Document Authentication Systems, Inc. ("DAS") announced
today the release of DocuGuard, a complete portfolio of electronic commerce products that enable a business breakthrough; the creation of Electronic Original documents. The patented
DocuGuard process allows companies to conduct business with an Electronic Original exactly as they would function with a paper document. This means that vital, complex documents such as
contracts, mortgages, leases, regulatory filings and drug applications can now be "worked" electronically between parties, instead of relying on paper originals and courier services as the basis
for handling complex, commercial transactions. The Electronic Original can help virtually any commercial or government enterprise save time, reduce expenses and improve efficiency. "The
Electronic Original breakthrough represents the next wave in the evolution of business-to-business electronic commerce," said Douglas H. Trotter, chief executive officer for DAS.
"DocuGuard fuses the emerging digital signature and cryptography technologies with secure, effective document authentication control practices into an innovative solution that dramatically
improves the efficiency of any paper-intensive business or regulatory process." Major features of DocuGuard include:
|
Enables the electronic creation and signing of all commercial documents. |
|
Eliminates the need for original paper documents and hard-copy storage for companies and their
trading partners. |
|
Provides and maintains a legal, verifiable chain of evidence and custody for protected documents
through trusted third parties. |
|
Enables legally enforceable agreements, transactions, and contracts. |
|
Produces electronic records that meet government regulations for "originals." |
|
Enables legally effective transfers of ownership between parties. |
DocuGuard's product set includes a scalable workstation application, a
Trusted Custodial Utility that receives and manages the electronic documents and a public key infrastructure that integrates certification authority
services with digital signatures, certificates, directories and key issuance and management of secure tokens. DAS has licensed DocuGuard for the mortgage and commercial equipment
leasing markets, and has recently signed a letter-of-intent with Sterling Commerce to implement DocuGuard in the pharmaceutical industry. Other
DAS partners and customers include: Renaissance Capital Group, Arkoma Venture Partners, Perot Systems Corporation, Prime New Ventures, Seed Capital Partners and General Electric Capital Corporation.
"Electronic Commerce is playing an increasingly important role in streamlining internal business processes," said David Dodge, president of the Commerce
Business Division for Sterling Commerce. "We look forward to working with DAS to bring their innovative solution to help the pharmaceuticals industry
with its many paper-intensive regulatory requirements." Document Authentication Systems, Inc., based in Baltimore's historic Camden Yards area, is a privately held electronic commerce software and
services company that develops and licenses DocuGuard. --end-- DocuGuard and Electronic Original are trademarks of e-Original, Inc. |
